What’s new

The app checks for new versions when it opens and shows a banner when one is ready. Download the latest version.

One-click updates

  • Install Update. When a new version is out, the banner’s Install Update button downloads it, checks it and installs it in a few seconds. No more downloading a disk image or clicking “Open Anyway” in System Settings. (This works for updates after 4.5. Getting to 4.5 is the last manual update. Sorry, I should have done this sooner.)

Easier to manage

  • Remove All Mods from Valheim (Profile menu) puts your Valheim folder back the way Steam installed it, and can delete your profiles too. Handy for troubleshooting, or if you’re done with mods.
  • A friendlier start. New users get a welcome screen with Import a Code or New Profile, instead of an empty “Default” profile. Importing a code no longer needs a name; it uses the one in the code.
  • Profile menu button. Each profile has a ⋯ button for rename, duplicate, share and delete, so you don’t have to discover the right-click menu.

Small things

  • Click a mod’s orange Update tag to update just that mod. The footer button now always says Update All.
  • The activity log is now capped at 1 MB.

Hexium mods, alongside Thunderstore

  • One library, two sites. Browse now includes mods from Hexium, where some popular authors such as Azumatt now publish. A small badge shows where each mod comes from, and a filter shows both sites or just one. A profile can mix mods from both.
  • Mods that moved come along. If an author deprecated a mod on Thunderstore and now updates it on Hexium, it’s marked “Moved to Hexium” and Update switches it over.
  • Modpacks. Installing a modpack gets the mods at the versions its author chose, plus the settings files it includes.
  • Share codes work with Gale. Codes now record which site each mod comes from, and codes Gale stores on Hexium import too. If your profile has mods that are only on Hexium, the share sheet names them, since friends using r2modman won’t get those.

  • Finds Valheim in any Steam library, including libraries on external drives.
  • Loads mods straight from the profile, so playing works even when Valheim is on a drive that can’t hold a link to it.
  • The mod loader starts on drives that don’t keep file permissions, such as exFAT.

4.2

  • Native on Apple Silicon. Modded Valheim runs as a native app on M-series Macs instead of through Rosetta, using an Apple Silicon build of the BepInEx mod loader that comes with the app.
  • Each profile can still run under Rosetta if a mod needs it: use the Native/Rosetta menu next to BepInEx.
